The Moat, Shotgun King Wiki

The Moat is a Black card in the game. A moat spawn in the middle row of the board. Every piece that is not a Knight (including the Black King) will have to stop at the Moat first if they want to cross. Bishops with Ascension and Knights are not hindered by the Moat. As a result, Black King can use Soul Cards from Bishops with Ascension and Knights to cross the Moat without stopping at it.
